From Grief to Action: How Our Communities Are Moving Forward

Dear Community,

If you’re feeling a mix of sadness, uncertainty, or even a sense of dread after this election, you’re not alone. It’s been a week of grappling with big emotions and trying to make sense of what’s next. Many of us are carrying questions about what this outcome means for our families, our communities, and the work we care about. It’s a lot to sit with.

And yet, these feelings also carry the potential for something powerful: they can remind us of what we care about most, what we’re willing to stand up for, and who we need to protect.

In times like these, we can take heart in the incredible organizing already happening. Pangea Legal Services and the Santa Clara County Rapid Response Network are elevating their immigrant defense hotlines and Migra Watch. They’re preparing to support people in moments of crisis, offering legal help and a lifeline to those feeling targeted or afraid. Faith in Action Bay Area has also mobilized quickly, gathering over 200 undocumented leaders and family members to create a plan of action. It’s a powerful reminder that we are not alone in this — there are networks and movements already working to defend and uplift those who need it most, from immigrant justice to countless other sectors.

If you’re wondering what you can do, the article “10 ways to be prepared and grounded now that Trump has won” offers practical, immediate actions to channel our energy. It emphasizes the importance of finding community, starting local efforts, and staying connected to grassroots movements that are ready to organize. We can transform our fear into something constructive by showing up for each other and building a stronger, more unified response.

There’s an event happening today that might be a good place to start. It’s a space for reflection, solidarity, and planning together. If you’re looking for a way to process, connect with others and start thinking about what we can do together moving forward. Join here.

Finally, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, remember to take a moment to breathe and ground yourself. This is hard, and it’s okay to need support. I recommend this somatic practice with Sumitra Rajkumar, which offers gentle guidance to help release some of the stress we’re all carrying. Listen here.

We’re in this together. Let’s lean into the strength of our communities and find hope in our collective power.

With care and solidarity,

Nilou
